Web Essentials 2005 Conference logo

It is Tuesday the 29th of November, 2005 and the highly anticipated Firefox 1.5 has been released! This has been my browser of choice sense Firefox 0.93. I largely switched to Firefox because its support of web standards , but the tabbed browsing and pop up blocker were also nice incentives. In version 1.5, they have added a some very nice enhancements like being able to reorder the tabs by dragging and dropping, as well as many other usability improvements.

Great Pictures from NASA

I recently saw a post on Digg.com about the ‘Great Images in NASA‘ website. Now I have been linked to this site before, but I never stayed for long. This time I felt inspired, so I thought I would browse through all of the pictures and see what I could find. There are thousands of images! It took several hours to go through them all, but I made it through them and I have downloaded my favoites and I then posted them to my gallery.

Many were black and white, some even featured the old-school ‘Red Baron’ style planes. While I do not really keep up with NASA, I really enjoy their images, I find them inspiring and very interesting. NASA makes these images availabe in very high resolution on their GRIN(Great Images in NASA) site.

KDE 3.5 Released Today!

klogoOn November 29th 2005, the much anticipated KDE 3.5 was released. If you have not already checked out what it has to offer, the KDE team has put together a very nice feature guide for KDE 3.5. Some of my favorite new features are the desktop pager and the vast improvements made to Konqueror. If you are like me, waiting for SuSE 10.1 in order to get your hands on KDE 3.5, is not an option. I could not even wait for the final release, I began using KDE 3.5 when the first release canidate hit the KDE Supplementary repository.

As a heavy KDE user, I can tell you that KDE 3.5 has some great new features and a very noticeable speed boost over 3.4. I have not had any serious issues with it, nor have I heard any reports of problems from other users. I will be posting instructions on how to upgrade to KDE 3.5 soon.

Novell Back Pedals on Move to Gnome

As I am sure many of us expected, Novell has decided to support KDE in all of their products after all. Holger Dyroff, Vice President of Product Management at Novell, declared that the company had “after consulting with its customers decided to continue to make both GNOME and KDE available in all Novell products.” And there was much rejoicing.
